The problem arose when I tried to add proto files from a parent directory to the cmake target generate-proto given to protobuf_generate. You see they both rely on the same proto file and implement it as either client or server depending on the language. Similarly I hope to do the same in the android gradle project. The idea being that I could use protobuf_generate to suck in my someproto.proto from 2 levels up into my cmake project down in the cpp folder and generate the required grpc stubs in the build folder.
